Blogging
The New Diary
Blog Spin-Offs
Recently we asked PR/Media Relations expert Jeri Cartwright of Cartwright Communications to introduce us to the world of blogging. Maybe starting your ‘diary’ is easier than you think.

Jeri recently started blogging to the world and says, “Soon, millions of new blogs will claim electronic real estate.” We’re happy to report her blog is rapidly climbing the internet blogging ladder.

See what we mean and learn how she has done it in her article, “Rhymes with Dog and moves like Apolo Ohno.”
While the blog is still an infant, it has already begun to spew sibling spin–offs. Photoblogs, video blogs and mblogs to name a few. Check out Wikipedia.org for more information than you probably want to know.
Sign of the Times
Feeding the blog beast is becoming easier than you think. It seems mobile phones and digital technology are fostering a new generation of cell-journalists. In fact, sign up with CellJournalist.com and get paid for your cellphotos of breaking news & celebrity sightings.

At SplashBlog.com you can view a veritable collection of nothing important coming from a mass of cellphone photographers across America. You can even order a print of anything you see. Once you've had enough of nothing and start craving real photography you can check out AnselAdams.com.
Wells Fargo Tradition
We recently photographed this ad for Wells Fargo. Shot on location at the Wells Fargo building in Downtown Salt Lake City, each woman was photographed separately then combined later for the design below.

A Video Annual Report

For the 9th consecutive year we provided technical support services for Wasatch Humane’s annual fund–raiser. For this year’s FurBall we produced a 9 minute annual report showcasing the charity’s programs and successes of 2005. The event turned out to be the biggest and best fund–raiser they’ve done to date. Wasatch Humane has been saving animals through education and adoptions for 23 years.

What a weird word. Blog. Do you realize that none of the spell–checks in my Microsoft Word software recognize the word “blog?” Nor does the spell–check in the blog software I use. Go figure.

Professionals, average people, politicians and reporters are using blogs. Chances are your kids have at least one, so read on and see how blogs are affecting a number of professions.

“Blogs are a marketer’s dream. At any given moment, with a few strategic blog searches, you will be able to determine the hot topics of the day”...
Last April, I had a fearful awakening. As a PR/media relations person with a mission to place news stories for clients, I was genuinely afraid.

My phone had stopped ringing. The fax machine was silent, and reporters let their calls go to voice mail. My personal, long–standing relationships with reporters weren’t as effective. Most were taking story ideas by e–mail only. I now must live or die by the e–mail subject line.

Evidently, the news media were scared, too — try dealing with 100–200 e–mails a day. And for them, there is new and determined competition. Thanks to blogs, the rise of citizen journalism is underway. But do these citizen journalists abide by journalistic standards? Do they understand the danger of libel? Do they realize that some information needs research before it can be trusted?
