Cook up some great meals and memories this fall and holiday season. One of our favorite friends, Marguerite Henderson (chef, TV host, teacher, and culinary arts consultant), offers a full menu of group and private cooking classes. She also has many ideas for keeping everyone busy at your next event or conference, the very popular on-site cooking classes for your spouse while you’re in meetings or workshops.

Marguerite has been very busy lately, creating culinary masterpieces on KSL every Wednesday at noon, as well as finishing her new book Small Plates, Appetizers as Meals, due out next March.

Performance Anxiety
Utah psychologist Jon Skidmore, adjunct professor at the BYU School of music, is pioneering coaching techniques to help students overcome performance anxiety. As a musician and a specialist in anxiety treatments, many of his techniques, some borrowed from sports psychology, help students become mentally prepared to make the leap from practice room to concert hall. We made this photograph for a publication of the American Psychological Association to accompany the story. Photo: Utah Psychologist Jon Skidmore

We’ve kept very busy lately lighting projects for many local clients. For the third year we’ve provided lighting services for the United Way TV campaign. Shot in high definition, the spots (currently airing) feature testimonials from local business leaders. We also lit a worldwide TV satellite feed in Salt lake, featuring Stephen R. Covey. The broadcast originated from the fine studios of KJZZ TV. Handstand Productions recently photographed a web-based training program for an international bank about crisis response. We spent two days downtown lighting various situations for them.

The most important, of course, being Christmas-Kwanza-Festivus-Hanukkah-Boxing Day. Whatever the holidays mean to you, I’ll bet somewhere on your fall survival list—between “clean out the rain gutters” and “service the furnace”—you’ve listed “plan office holiday party.”

Early October may seem a little soon to be thinking about the office holiday party, but advanced planning is one of the most important steps to a great event. It means less stress immediately before and during the event and allows for you to actually take a moment and enjoy your hard work along with the rest of the guests.

So, starting with advanced planning then, here are some thoughts to get you started down the path to the perfect party.
